Paris family photographer: a guide on what to expect from the experience

I’m Mariana, a destination family photographer in France. I love to travel! As such, I serve many cities, including but not limited to Paris, Toulouse, Marseille, Sarlat (Dordogne), Basel, Zurich, and London.
I believe that family is everything, that babies and children are perfect just the way they are. And there is absolutely no need for unnatural posing or props. I also believe that family photos should be meaningful, with real memories attached to them.
As a fine art maternity, baby, and family photographer, I specialize in working with families with babies and young children. My main goal is to create a collection of love-filled and timeless images through a very relaxing experience.

Ideal family
I will be honest – my sessions are not for everyone.
My work might not be a good fit if: you want all images to be traditional, posed everyone-smiling-looking-into-the-camera type of photos. If you expect your children to behave “well”. And if you feel uncomfortable letting go of expectations or showing those true, raw emotions.
My sessions are up close and personal. They are ideal for families who value connection over perfection. And want to document the current stage of their family life in a way that feels genuine and natural.
My approach as a Paris family photographer
There are many different approaches to family photography, ranging from very formal, traditional portraits of everyone smiling and looking into the camera to documentary images of entirely unposed moments.
I love both beautiful, naturally-guided portraits as well as candid, non-orchestrated moments of joy, love, and connection.
As such, my approach to photography includes a mix of very natural posing and documentary moments. What this looks like is that I loosely divide your session into two parts. First, I will guide you through natural posing and prompts so we can get a variety of relaxed and candid family group images.
As children start getting ready to move and play freely, we will move into the second part of your session which takes a more documentary approach, when I provide little to no interference. You simply spend time and have fun with your children while I capture those moments as they naturally unfold.
I am not only a Paris family photographer. I’m also a mom of two small children. As such, I know very well that children, especially babies and toddlers, are unpredictable. And they typically don’t like having their photos taken through an experience when they are being told what to do the entire time.
For this reason, I have developed a series of great techniques to get children and parents to have fun and show me their true personality and family love.
This approach allows for an experience where your whole family feels comfortable and relaxed – including dad!! So all you really have to do is to enjoy being with each other.
The logistics: location, day, and time
My main priority is to offer you an experience that suits your needs and unique family routine. As such, you can choose to have your session in the comfort of your own home or choose a beautiful park from my curated list. I also offer studio sessions, but these are available only in Toulouse. We decide on the location together during the planning stages of your session.
Regardless of the location, my style remains the same regardless of where you decide to have your family photoshoot: a mix of natural portraits and documentary moments presented in a collection of soft, luminous, and timeless aesthetic.
I typically schedule sessions on Saturday or Sunday. In-home sessions take place in the morning because this is when children tend to be the most cheerful. Outdoor sessions are typically booked for 2h before sunset to enjoy the prettiest light. But the starting time depends on the time of the year and the weather.
What to wear
I believe that the outfit choice makes a big impact on the aesthetics of your images. The outfit choice doesn’t matter much if your main desire is to have images that are all about moments and emotions.
BUT, for families (especially moms) who also care about how the images look, then what you wear can make a big difference.
For example, did you know that clothing can alter skin tones? If your daughter wears a bright pink dress, there will be a pink color cast on her skin and those near her, especially if it is sunny outside.
To ensure the process of choosing outfits is fun rather than stressful, you will have exclusive access to a detailed styling guide with all the information you need to choose the right outfit. The guide also includes a curated list of my favorite clothing brands.
Plus, moms have the option of borrowing a dress from my studio wardrobe. Lastly, your session fee includes a video consultation to help you coordinate outfits for your family through an easy process.
Pricing information
To reserve your session with me, your Paris family photographer, you will be asked to pay a non-refundable fee of 195 euros. Once you see your final images, you only buy what you truly love.
That is, you will choose how your favorite ones and how you would like to enjoy them: folio box with matted prints, album, wall art as well as gifts for grandparents and other family and friends.
All collections include stunning print products with amazing quality and matching digital images. So you can enjoy your images around your home and digitally.
