I’d love to share about this recent in home family photo session. I met D. online when I first moved to Toulouse. She was one of the most helpful people in the Facebook expat group when I reached out with questions about housing. I am glad we ended up meeting in person when I had the opportunity to document a Sunday morning with her and her children during an in-home family photo session at their house in Toulouse.
The session was particularly special to me as I had the opportunity to photograph two teenagers in addition to a 5-year-old.
I specialize in families with newborns, babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. A family with teenage children, however, is a new challenge because they are in a stage of development where they really appreciate their alone time and privacy. Having someone in their home, with a camera, capturing their honest moments and expressions, is probably not on their top priority of what an ideal Sunday morning would look like.
But it was not the case with D.’s teens. They were a true joy to document. The son was so loving to his little sister. And I absolutely loved to witness and capture those little moments of brother-sister truly enjoying time together. The teen daughter was also really lovely. She adored the camera, giving me lots of funny, but also honest moments of what being a teen girl looks like. And the little girl…! She was so expressive and full of emotions, from laughter to crying, to everything else in between. I love photographing children who are so free-spirited and confident in themselves.
Lastly, I was really inspired by how loving and present the mom was. I just adore doing photo sessions with a motherhood focus because there is something so truly special about watching what being a mom looks like.
Even though I specialize in families with young children, I am always open to venturing beyond my comfort zone and documenting what life feels and looks like with older children.
